César and friends, buenos Aires, Argentina, Aug 18, 2018
Buenos Aires was my last major destination in the Americas. By giving up on other smaller regions of interest, I could manage to spend a week in Buenos Aires. Aside from the light sickness for the first couple days, there were logistical things to get done to migrate from South America to Europe for both my car and myself. At the same time, I wanted to take some time think about what all this means – why did I start this? What have I been doing?...
Parrilla Libre El Fogón, Gualeguaychú, Entre Rios, Argentina, August 19, 2018
On my birthday, I spent the whole day with my best travel companion, my car. I drove from Gualeguaychú to Montevideo, about 350 kilometers or 6 hours. It might just be the tradition of my family, but we do not have a strong culture of celebrating birthdays. So I did not feel particularly lonely being alone. But as a farewell to Argentina, and as a reminder that things are quite expensive in Uruguay, I had the last substantial meal of meat in Gualeguaychú. The Argentinian Parrilla,...
Location update – Buenos Aires – Argentina, Aug 14, 2018
In Buenos Aires. 48,000km driven so far. The first chapter of the big trip is close to the end. @Buenos Aires – Argentina, Aug 14, 2018
with Nahuel @Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, August 10, 2018
I had the pleasure to meet this guy again in Rosario. I met Nahuel for the first time in Panama City back in February. I was glad to catch up with him in his home country, Argentina, and almost in his hometown, Rosario, while getting to meet his sister and aunt as well. When I first met him, he had already traveled for 4 years (or longer I recall). I believe my mode of traveling is different from his; however, I admire his strong adaptability and...
Gradual changes @Gualeguaychú, Argentina, August 6, 2018
I came back to Argentina. Two months ago, I was in Northern Argentina, but I was mostly driving to get to Paraguay. So I came back to get to see the country better – this huge country seemed to deserve it. I’ll travel Argentina for as much as possible before I conclude the South American leg of the travel in Montevideo at the end of this month. In the morning, my destination for the day was Rosario, but by the time I left the Uruguayan/Argentinian customs,...
A Spontaneous Bike Ride @Corrientes, Argentina, May 27, 2018
To me, Corrientes seemed quite similar to Asuncion. Not only did the streets look alike, but people used some Guarani words and ate Chipa. I tried but it was a bit hard to appreciate Corrientes as Corrientes because I was already overwhelmed the excitement about getting to Paraguay in a couple days. But I was happy to get to know Mr. Angel Augusto. In his 70s, he travels with his bike all around Argentina. He had just ridden 1,000km to get to Corrientes from Buenos Aires....
Hitchhikers @Tilcara, Jujuy, Argentina, May 22, 2018
Now you know that I’m driving but when I was preparing for this trip, I was reviewing different modes of transportation and hitchhiking was actually one of the options. I remember reading several posts by hitchhiking travelers and thinking about the pros and cons. I haven’t done much hitchhiking but I assume it’s usually a physically demanding process. So I try to help when I see hitchhikers but especially because I’m traveling solo, it’s not easy to stop and open up my car to strangers. In...
