Hector is one of my friends living in Barcelona, but he’s the only one who’s born and raised there – a native Catalan! When we met the last time in Washington D.C., I was the resident and he was the visitor, and this time it was the other way around.
Recently I had been educating myself on the complex nature of the relationships among different communities in Spain, not to mention on the recent developments between Madrid and Catalonia. Hearing about a local’s perspective was both refreshing and informative.
Over the past years, he’s grown as a professional in the aviation industry, an area that I had known very little about before. Having a glimpse of how the industry works was exciting. And I was reminded of the dynamic and hectic daily lives in the corporate environment, to which I have no idea whether I’ll go back later.
At any rate, I can be only grateful for the many hours he spent with me on a Sunday afternoon – I’m sure Sundays are such a big deal when having a full-time job.
