San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, México, January 30, 2018

This relatively small town was on the very first page of lonely planet Mexico, as one of the top recommendations in the country. Unfortunately it has been very cold since I came here. I hear it’s being unusually cold in Mexico city as well, so I assume it’s affecting the whole central region. With triple shirts and double pants, I set out to walk around the Centro. It seems to be a historically important pretty small town, where there live a lot of retired American people....

Teatro del bicentenario, Leon, Mexico January 27, 2018

A week in Leon was just another example of serendipity, which seems to happen so effortlessly when traveling. The original plan of staying one day ended up being a week in the city, thanks to the new friends. This was my 6th day in Leon while walking around the public garden in front of the Teatro Bicentenario, where I could happen to watch the annual festival of the city across the street. The rides and rollercoasters looked much more interesting than those in the Universal Studios...

Lunch together, SAS mecánico automotriz, León, mexico, Jan 25, 2018

Originally I was not going to stop by the city of Leon but I needed some urgent auto diagnostics. The employees at this repair shop were so kind that it was like being with a family. I was invited to their casual lunch on the front desk for two days in a row. The picture was from the first day. The kindness melted my heart so some butterflies were flying inside of me for a while. @sas mecánico automotriz, León, mexico

Last image of Guadalajara, @plaza liberación, Guadalajara, Jan 22 2018

Although I stayed in Guadalajara for one third of a month, I was mostly in bed. On the day I left the city, I at least had to quickly stop by the Centro and get a feel for the city, which is often described as the cultural center of Mexico. Now this image constitutes 20% of my memory of Guadalajara – the rest goes to three Mexican friends I had the pleasure to know. @ plaza liberación, Guadalajara, Jan 22 2018

Rice porridge, Guadalajara Jara, Mexico, Jan 21 2018

This is no local delicacy. This is just rice porridge. Still, I was thrilled to be able to digest this. I fell sick earlier this week. I suspect gastroenteritis or specifically the two big pieces of torta ahogada that I had for lunch. For days, my body couldn’t even handle water. This is definitely not the first time, but being sick is a such a strong reminder of the often unattended daily privileges. In this case it was being able to digest normal food! I envy...

First camping, playa El Tecolote, Jan 1st, 2018

First camping experience with a tent other than camping in the car. Cooking and having dinner in the dark and falling asleep to the sound of waves was too movie-like so it felt funny. However, since there were not many people around so theoretically it could have been dangerous during the night. And when the car security alarm went off loudly at 4:50am, it took me some good amount of courage to come out of the tent and face the reality. Fortunately, I conclude that it...
