
I’m sure that they do not know about this, but my friend and I actually talked about whether to ask them if they needed someone to take a picture for them on our way to the High Castle. They seemed they needed a photographer and there was no one around then. So it was interesting when they came to us later to ask for a picture at the top of the Castle. Despite the not-so-shallow language barrier, we exchanged some good laughs and mutual energies. Probably thanks to the pleasant connection, they asked to have coffee together before their train departs later that evening. I actually had some other plans, but their genuine curiosity and the serendipity of the situation were too hard to decline.
Also, I appreciate having a chance to think about what my own first trip abroad was like 16 years ago, and what a life would be like when it’s devoted to studying Islamic theology.
