One of the good things about long-term travel is that you are less likely to be amazed by the ‘things to do in X’, because you feel you had done something similar in previous destinations. It is good news for me, because the remaining energy often goes to interaction with people or observing how the places make me feel, instead of remembering some facts about them.
I stayed in Nis, the 3rd biggest city in Serbia, for about 5 days. In terms of tourism, the city cannot really compete with the nation’s charming capital, Belgrade, but I happily stayed the majority of my time in Serbia there, thanks to two sweet families I met almost every day. And one of them is Natasha’s.
I suspect that, for her family, I was the first Korean to meet in person, not to mention to feed them a Korean dish. I hope it was enjoyable and interesting to hear about new stories. (I don’t worry too much about my dish because it stood the test of time in multiple continents so far 🙂 ) For me, it was very lucky because it is the only proper way to appreciate Serbian cuisine – through a Serbian mom. And my textual knowledge of the modern history of Serbia could come to life through how it is remembered by a family.
