Memories of Overlanding

An hour after the car came back to my possession after a month-long travel from Montevideo, Uruguay to Amsterdam, the Netherlands @ zaanse schans, the Netherlands, October 2, 2018Arrived in Lyon, France after driving for 5 hours today from Luxembourg. Because Europe is densely populated with countries, I usually don’t need to drive as much as 5 hours a day, but I’m speeding up to catch a flight in Spain.I had a hostel reservation as a backup, but this street parking spot, which I’ve earned after a desperate search, has a nice view of the city. So I am camping tonight.@ Lyon, France, October 16, 2018This is my daily routine – packing my bag, reorganizing the inside of my car, and getting ready for the destination of the day. I usually do not see myself doing this but it was gratefully captured one morning against a beautiful background in a small city in Spain.@ logroño, La Rioja, Spain, November 5, 2018

In fact, I believe working out is essential for traveling for a long-term because it keeps you healthy and gives you energy for continued adventures. But not every small town has a gym, and gyms can be quite expensive anyways to use on a daily basis.

In fact, I had been using a ‘home gym’ even before traveling, by using resistance cables and some ingenuity for installing them for different angles. Nowadays the ‘home’ is replaced by my car.

Usually, I find a place of ‘low profile’ in order not to surprise the neighborhood too much. But in this afternoon at Cape Vidio, I could afford a workout session while being surrounded by the views of the sea and the wild sounds of the waves. What an experience! By the way, I tend to finish some minor tasks of the day (phone calls, writing, having lunch etc) at places whose memories I want to keep vivid for a long time. It gives me the illusion that I know the place better.

This park was an oasis of nature in the center of Frankfurt. The weather was warm and finding a free parking spot was not competitive. I ended up doing some urban camping here for two nights.@ Eschenheimer anlage park, Frankfurt, Germany, April 22, 2019
