Impressions of France

The fortified city of Carcassonne is in Southern France, specifically in the Occitanie region. The city boasts an almost intact citadel, which has been restored by the end of 19th century. Ironically, the restoration work began when the government reversed its plan of demolishing the fortifications. The double-layered walls are 3 kilometer-long and the area inside the citadel was surprisingly small and it was mostly occupied by souvenir shops and restaurants.

Around the sunset, local teens enjoy freestyle dancing in front of one of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe, Palace of Popes. It’s interesting that the religious authority during the medieval era must have had little idea about how the world would change in mere several hundreds years.

Promenade des Anglais or literally the Walkway of the English is the most iconic spot in Nice, a popular vacation destination in France and the world. At night, the promenade was still bustling with many joggers and bikers and people who were just sitting in front of the waves.
