Impressions of Bulgaria

Within hours of exploration, I was faced with a scene full of Bulgaria and Plovdiv.@ Plovdiv, Bulgaria, June 8, 2019

Colloquially called as the ‘Hill’ by a friend who lives there, Nebet Tepe is one of the three northern hills where ancient towns were founded in Plovdiv. The name means ‘hill of the guards’ in Turkish, but nowadays the remaining fortification attracts people who want scenic views of the city.

One thing led to another, and I found myself at the Meadows in the Mountains festival in the Rhodopes Mountains, close to the border with Greece. Until the moment we got in, we had not had much idea about the festival. Now, I’d roughly call it the Burning Man in mountains. In the afternoon we got in, many people were chilling in beautiful nature as in this picture. But later I learned that they were recovering from last night’s parties, as the time of drastic self-expression was beginning again as the darkness fell.
